Product image prompts: examples and settings
A useful product image starts with a specific brief: object, material, angle, lighting and layout space. Prepare three distinct kinds of visual and choose settings actually offered by the model.
Define the use before writing the prompt
A product listing image prioritizes a clear view of the object. A lifestyle scene shows it in context. A banner leaves room for text added later. Decide on the use and final ratio before asking for decorative details.
To depict an existing product, prepare an authorized reference showing its shape and details. A description or reference does not guarantee faithful reproduction: dimensions, logos, accessories and colors need review before publication.
A reusable prompt structure
Write the brief in five parts: object and material → viewpoint → composition → lighting → constraints. Replace each part with a visual decision. “Incredible quality” communicates less than “diffuse light, fully visible handle, plain background.”
- Object: a blue ceramic cup with a rounded handle.
- Viewpoint: a three-quarter view at the object’s height.
- Composition: a single product, fully visible, with space around it.
- Lighting: a soft source on the left, a gentle shadow.
- Constraints: preserve the reference shape, no added objects or text.
Three examples for different uses
Product listing with a simple background
A blue ceramic cup, three-quarter view at the object’s height, centered and fully visible. Plain white background, diffuse light from the left, soft ground shadow. Use the reference for shape and color. No extra objects or added text.
Plan a square ratio if required by the destination and accepted by the model. A white background remains opaque; to place the object on another background, check for an actual transparency setting and a compatible format.
A lifestyle scene with context
The reference cup on a light wooden table beside a window. Three-quarter view, visible handle, cup in the foreground and an understated kitchen background. Soft morning light. Preserve the product design without changing the material or adding lettering.
Choose a landscape frame to show the setting if that ratio and resolution combination exists. Limit props to keep the product recognizable.
A banner with room for a caption
A blue cup in the left third of a horizontal frame. Simple cream background, quiet empty space in the right half for a caption added later. Fully visible product, soft lighting, no generated text.
The requested empty area is a composition intention. Check its size in the output before placing final text; choose accepted proportions instead of an arbitrary format.
Choose resolution, references and background
| Model | Resolutions | Max. image references | Selectable transparent background |
|---|---|---|---|
| GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst | 1K, 2K, 4K | 16 | Yes, with a compatible format |
| GPT Image 2 | 1K, 2K, 4K | 16 | Yes, with a compatible format |
| Nano Banana Pro | 1K, 2K, 4K | 14 | No exposed setting |
| Nano Banana 2.1 | 1K, 2K, 4K | 14 | No exposed setting |
| Grok Imagine Image 2.0 | 1K, 2K | 3 | No exposed setting |
| Qwen Image 3.0 Pro | 1K, 2K | 3 | No exposed setting |
These settings come from the public catalog. Aspect ratios can change with resolution, and not every model exposes quality, format or transparent-background controls. Read the model guide for valid combinations and individual and total upload limits.
JPEG does not retain transparency. If the model offers a transparent background, choose a compatible format such as PNG and inspect the downloaded file. Increasing resolution does not fix an incorrect shape; prepare a satisfactory composition first.
Review the product and organize variations
- Compare silhouette, proportions, part count and details with the reference.
- Review necessary logos, lettering and colors; a plausible appearance may still be inaccurate.
- Check final cropping and edges if the product needs a cutout.
- Keep the prompt and settings. To understand a variation, change only the angle, lighting or background.
Do not use a generated visual to claim a real product property you have not verified. To plan an animated sequence from the selected visual, follow the image-to-video guide.
Tool availability
You can read these guides and browse the catalogs without starting a generation. Paid generation in the public browser workspaces is not yet open. When enabled, it will require a verified account and paid credits. The briefs above are planning examples, not generated results.
